This decorative metate was created by Miguel Jorge of
Zinapicuaro. The metate has always been an integral part of
everyday life in Mexico, as it was, and still is, used to gring corn
with. Here, Miguel has added ancient Tarascan drawings to its
surface.
The back leg was snapped off during shipment (see bottom left
picture) and has been epoxied back on.
