Joaquin Hernandez Vasquez - San Martin Tilcajete, Oaxaca


There are three pueblos in Oaxaca known for
making alebrijes, Arrazola, La Union, and San
Martin Tilcajete. Joaquin is from the later. Tilcajete
is a short drive down Hwy. 175 from Oaxaca City.
Turning off the highway is a two-lane road
heading toward Tilcajete. Joaquin's house and
studio are on the right where he and his family
are busy making whimsical creatures out of copal
wood.

We have been purchasing alebrijes from Joaquin
for several years and this Iguana piece is one of
our favorites.
